Advanced Lipids and Advanced Imaging for Assessing CVD Risk in Women- Where are we in 2025? - Samar R El Khoudary, PhD, MPH, BPharm, FAHA

Traditional cardiovascular risk tools often fall short for women—especially during the menopausal transition. In this evidence-based session, Dr. Samar El Khoudary will examine the latest advancements in lipid profiling and imaging technologies, including coronary artery calcium scoring and vascular imaging, and their role in sex-specific cardiovascular risk assessment. Drawing on the most current research, she’ll provide clinicians with a roadmap for integrating advanced diagnostics into personalized prevention strategies for women in midlife and beyond.

Samar El Khoudary, PhD, MPH, BPharm, FAHA, is a Professor and Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health, with a secondary faculty appointment in the university’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute. A leading researcher in women’s cardiovascular health, Dr. El Khoudary focuses on the impact of the menopausal transition on lipid metabolism, vascular aging, and body fat distribution. Her work has helped shape sex-specific cardiovascular risk assessment strategies and continues to influence preventive care for midlife women.
