Dr. Mike McClung explores the latest in osteoporosis diagnosis, fracture risk assessment, and treatment options to help women better understand and protect their bone health. This session will address who should be screened, how to interpret bone density results, when to consider medications, and how lifestyle changes can support long-term bone strength and fracture prevention.
The session will begin with a 30-minute clinical overview from Dr. McClung, followed by a 30-minute live Q&A moderated by Dr. Lisa Larkin. Dr. McClung will respond to live questions and those submitted in advance, offering practical, evidence-based insights on osteoporosis care and prevention.
Michael McClung, MD, FACP, FACE is an endocrinologist and the Founding and Emeritus Director of the Oregon Osteoporosis Center in Portland. Dr. McClung has held several academic appointments, had an active clinical practice and was the principal investigator in many of the large clinical trials evaluating the effects of therapeutic agents for osteoporosis. He has been actively involved in the training of young physicians and the development of clinical guidelines for several national osteoporosis societies including the Menopause Society. He previously served on the Board of the North American Menopause Society (now the Menopause Society).
Dr. Lisa Larkin, MD, FACP, MSCP, IF, will moderate the discussion, contributing her expertise in women’s preventive health and midlife care.
