Understanding the transition perimenopause has become increasingly important for both patients and clinicians as menopause is getting more attention everywhere. In this session, Dr. Marcie Richardson will explore when perimenopause truly begins, how symptoms may present before previously thought, can be recognized, and how clinicians can better support women during this often overlooked stage. She’ll review current evidence, common diagnostic challenges, and practical strategies to help patients navigate hormonal changes with clarity and confidence as the “menoverse” continues to expand. And she hopes to get some collaborative input.
Marcie Richardson, MD, FACOG, graduated from Harvard in the year of the second strike and went to medical school in San Diego.
For some reason, she returned to Boston for OB/GYN training at BIDMC. She practiced OB until 2.5 years ago, but in 1999 started a menopause consultation service with an internist at her multispeciality group. She served on the board of the then NAMS for 8 years, in its 25th year. She has reviewed > 125 articles for the journal Menopause. About 7 years ago, she started collaborating with Nina Coslov, the founder of the website Women Living Better. We have been working on trying to understand the onset and character of perimenopause. Marcie teaches Harvard medical students about menopause and is working hard to raise the bar for menopause in her organization and city.
