Lung Cancer in Women - Sandy Starnes, MD, MHS, FACC, FAHA, FESC

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in women, yet sex-specific differences in risk, biology, and outcomes are often overlooked. In this session, Dr. Sandy Starnes will explore the latest data on lung cancer in women, including evolving trends in non-smokers, diagnostic challenges, and treatment approaches. Drawing on her expertise in thoracic oncology and surgical care, she’ll highlight what clinicians need to know to improve early detection and outcomes for female patients.

Sandy Starnes, MD, is a board-certified thoracic surgeon and Chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. With a clinical focus on lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and minimally invasive thoracic surgery, she is recognized for her expertise in complex surgical care and multidisciplinary cancer management. Dr. Starnes is also committed to advancing education and training in thoracic surgery, serving as a professor and mentor to the next generation of surgeons.
