Brain Health and Healthy Aging - The New Blood Test - Pauline Maki, PhD

Dr. Pauline Maki explores the evolving science of brain health and healthy aging for women—what matters most, what changes during midlife, and how emerging tools like new blood tests for Alzheimer’s risk may play a role in prevention. This session will demystify the connection between menopause, hormones, mood, and memory, while offering evidence-based insights on what women can do now to support lifelong brain health.

The session will begin with a 30-minute overview from Dr. Maki, followed by a 30-minute live Q&A moderated by Dr. Lisa Larkin. Dr. Maki will answer audience questions, address common misconceptions, and share the latest research on cognitive aging, hormone therapy, and the promise and limitations of new diagnostic technologies.

Pauline Maki, PhD, is a renowned expert in women’s health and a leader in the field of menopause and cognitive aging. She is a Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Illinois Chicago, where she also serves as Director of Women’s Mental Health Research and Senior Director of Research at the Center for Research on Women and Gender.

Dr. Maki’s groundbreaking research focuses on the effects of menopause, hormone therapy, and midlife health on cognitive function and mood. She has authored over 200 scientific publications and received numerous awards, including The Menopause Society’s Henry Burger Award. A past President of The Menopause Society and founding member of the Society for Women’s Health Research Interdisciplinary Network on Alzheimer’s Disease, she is widely recognized for advancing the science of brain health in women. Dr. Maki is also a dedicated mentor, committed to training the next generation of women’s health researchers and clinicians.

Dr. Lisa Larkin, MD, FACP, MSCP, IF, will moderate the discussion, bringing her expertise in women’s health, midlife care, and prevention. As founder of HERmedicine and Ms.Medicine, Dr. Larkin is passionate about delivering accurate, evidence-based care and education for women.
